Our Daily Routines

Coming into Pre-school

When the children arrive at Pre-school,  they self register by finding the Apple with their name on it (with a little help from you) and placing it on our Apple Tree.  They also find the picture of their face & place it on an Emotion Monster to show how they are feeling.  Any fruit they have brought is placed in the basket on the red table.  The children can then place any bags and coats on their pegs and if they have brought it, put their bookbag in the box. It's then time to say "Goodbye" to you and "Hello" to their Keyworker.

The Pre-school Session

Each session at Pre-school contains the following elements, often in this order, but sometimes switched around depending on particular activities and the weather.

Free Play Inside

The children choose where, what and who they want to play with.  The Keyworkers play alongside the children to help develop their learning through their play.

Group Time

All children take part in a short group time during each session.  The group times may be linked with our theme for the week, a Storybox, a music time, the very popular Dough Disco to develop fine & gross motor skills or something that is of particular interest to the children. Butterfly children take part in a Phonics and Maths group time each week.

Snack Time

We all sit around the tables in the Small Hall together and enjoy a snack of fruit & breadsticks and a drink of milk or water.  During this time, the children enjoy chatting with each other and the staff and learning to cut their fruit, pour their drinks and clear away after themselves.  The children have their favourite fruits, but also enjoy tasting different and less common fruits when they are brought in.

Free Play Outside

The children choose where, what and who they want to play with.  The Keyworkers play alongside the children to help develop their learning through their play.

Story and Singing Time

Each session ends with a story and singing time.  Often this is in separate Caterpillar and Butterfly groups.

Going Home from Pre-school

At the end of the Pre-school session, all of the children will be sat on the carpet in the Large Hall.  Parents/Carers will be let into the Small Hall.  When the member of staff at the Big Hall door sees you, they will send your child to meet you.  The children can then collect anything from their tray & pegs to go home.

Lunch Club

Once the morning children have gone home, those children staying for lunch will come into the Small Hall, and sit at the tables with staff, to eat their packed lunch.
